Software for Calculation of Non-linear Compression Springs of Any Shape
(C) Copyright 1996-2024 by HEXAGON, Berlin
FED7 calculates spring path, spring forces and shearing stress for compression springs of any shape. The curves and schematic spring drawings can be graphically displayed and exported to CAD or word-processing programs via DXF files.
Calculation
The spring rate, and with it the degree of progression, is determined by dividing the spring into up to 500 cylindrical sections and by entering length, coil number, coil diameter and wire diameter of each section. FED7 then calculates all necessary spring forces, spring path, spring rate, spring operation, shearing stress, wire lengths and weight for the defined spring.
Special Shapes
For conical, barrel and waisted pressure springs FED7 generates the necessary spring sections. Differing special shapes can be combined in any variation and extended by cylindrical sections.
Spring Drawing and Animation
Schematic spring drawings of any clamping length can be graphically displayed and exported to CAD via DXF or IGES files. The different length changes of the individual coil sections under load are taken into account. The compliance between any two positions can be simulated on screen in an animation.
Diagrams
The courses for the spring curve, spring rate and spring operations are shown on screen as a diagram. Each screen graphic can be printed out on laser, ink jet or needle printers, or exported to CAD and word-processing programs via the DXF or IGES interface.
Spring Curve and Spring Rate
The curve of a non-linear pressure spring becomes progressive as soon as the first coils begin to flatten (Force Path Diagram). The curves for spring rate and spring force are shown in the diagram as functions in relation to spring path.
Spring Operation
The spring operation results from the integral of the spring curve.
Goodman Diagram
The fatigue stress diagram shows whether or not the permissible elevation stress has been adhered to for dynamically loaded springs. The curves for fatigue stress (>10 mill.) as well as for one million and 100,000 repetitions are included in the diagram.
Quick Output
The Quick Output displays the most important spring data and the spring curve on one screen.
Material Data Base
FED7 obtains the values for the most important spring materials (tensile strength, permissible shearing stress in relation to wire diameter, shearing modulus, E modulus, density) from the integrated data base.
